Since we have a sweet new addition to our family, I have approached
lesson planning a little differently this year. (I affectionately call our sweet baby "Smoochie Smoo" at times, so I will refer to her as SS on the blog. :-) )
In other words----I
tried to get organized while I was pregnant and planned out much more in
advance than usual! I'm hoping all the work will pay off, and I'm
excited to try to use our new system. Since I enjoy seeing and reading about how others plan for their homeschooling, I thought I'd share how I've
planned for this year in case it might be helpful to someone else.
To begin with, I planned our daily routine based on a Charlotte Mason type of schedule.

I will use this routine to help me make
each day's assignment log (which I'm hoping to fill in a week at a
time). To fill in the log, I've made assignment lists that go along
with each resource we will be using this year.
Some examples.....

You can see that some assignment pages are
simple lists, while others are more detailed. I am trying to enable DG
to be as independent as possible, while still guiding her endeavors.
I will use the assignment sheets to fill in DG's assignment log which looks like this:

This log will act as our "official" record of work completed this year in DG's portfolio.
To help with planning, I have also been compiling needed resources in a notebook. I hope to have everything we need for six weeks at time filed and ready. (If all goes as planned, we will school for six weeks and have a one week break/catch up time cycle through this year---with all of December off!) At the front of the resources notebook I have a "To Do" list of what needs to be made, printed and filed.

Then I will make notebook pages as needed....

....or find them on the internet, thanks to others who freely share resources (or charge a small fee, as the case may be).

I am working on adding resources I create to a master planning page this year, and if anything I make will help you, please feel free to download it for your own personal use in your homeschool or classroom. I also plan to link to the wonderful resources I find online. It will be an ongoing process, but for reference, you can find the 2013-2014 master planning page here if interested.
And there you have a glimpse into how I've been planning for our new school year. Again, I hope it all pays off and works out well. We shall see! It will be a new adventure this year, that's for sure!
